In 1982, at the age of 21, Basquiat was the youngest participant in documenta 7 to date. After his death in 1988, he left behind more than 1,000 paintings and objects as well as 2,000 drawings. The painting “Hollywood Africans” was created in 1983 during a lengthy visit to Los Angeles, and detailed views are printed across the entire watch. The dial features the trio of figures (Basquiat on the right, the painter Toxic, who traveled with him, on the left, and the rap musician Rammellzee) and black hands. The printed case is made of blue plastic and houses a precise quartz movement with a battery.
